Subaru had some big news to share with us at the start of 2025, namely the arrival in the lineup of a hybrid variant of the Crosstrek SUV. The model will arrive towards the end of this year, as a 2026 product.
This marks the return of an electrified powertrain for this model, this time as part of the third generation of the popular compact SUV. Featuring a new-generation parallel/serial hybrid system, this model offers enhanced fuel efficiency, while retaining its off-road capabilities, the fruit of Subaru's industry-leading Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. With this model, it will be accompanied by the X-Mode system with hill descent control.
The 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid will be easily recognizable with its distinctive design and exclusive new colors, Sand Dune Pearl and Citron Yellow Pearl. These will be paired with 18-inch alloy wheels in a dark gray hue.
Hybrid powertrain
The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid will benefit from Subaru's 2.5-liter Boxer 4-cylinder engine. Thanks to the presence of electric motors, combined power will reach 194 hp. Dynamism is guaranteed, as is reduced fuel consumption.
The hybrid system uses a high-capacity 1.1 kWh lithium-ion battery, enabling the model to offer instant response and greater fuel efficiency. The continuously-variable automatic transmission (CVT) that teams up with it all will ensure a smooth ride in all conditions.
Subaru's EyeSight safety suite will be included with this model as with all others in the range, with an enhanced pedestrian and cyclist detection system, as well as a number of appreciated features such as Reverse Brake Assist, Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
In addition, the emergency stop system intervenes if the driver becomes inactive, bringing the vehicle to a halt and alerting emergency services via Subaru's connected systems.
On board
Inside the hybrid version of the 2026 Crosstrek, you'll find a digital dashboard with a 12.3-inch screen, integrated navigation and Apple Maps compatibility. The multimedia system will take shape on an 11.6-inch tablet-style touchscreen, an approach we're already familiar with from the brand's products. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto apps, with wireless connection, will also be part of the package.
Many details are still to come regarding this variant, but what's interesting is that we see the Subaru range moving towards electrification. The Crosstrek hybrid will join the Forester hybrid due to arrive this spring, while the Outback is also said to be in line to receive this type of powertrain.
