Subaru Canada strengthens its safety credentials as two more models earn prestigious Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awards. The Solterra receives an upgrade to TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) status while the WRX joins the lineup with a TOP SAFETY PICK (TSP) designation.
These new achievements add to Subaru's existing 2024 safety award collection. The Ascent maintains its TSP+ rating, while both the Impreza and Outback continue with their TSP status. This expansion brings Subaru's current total to two TSP+ and three TSP awards for 2024.
Meeting Enhanced 2024 IIHS Standards
The 2024 IIHS testing program features enhanced criteria across multiple safety aspects. Vehicles must now achieve good ratings in both small overlap front and updated side tests. The requirements include acceptable or good ratings for pedestrian front crash prevention systems. Additionally, all trim levels must offer headlights that meet strict quality standards. For the coveted TSP+ designation, vehicles must also demonstrate superior performance in the updated moderate overlap front test.
Notable Safety Achievement Records
Several Subaru models showcase remarkable consistency in safety excellence. The Ascent marks seven straight years of TSP or higher recognition. The Outback extends its impressive streak to sixteen consecutive years of safety awards. Most notably, the Impreza achieves an outstanding seventeen-year run of IIHS safety recognition. The all-electric Solterra builds on its safety reputation in its second model year, while the WRX adds its ninth IIHS safety award to its history.
Subaru's Safety Leadership Position
Subaru's dedication to safety innovation continues to set industry benchmarks. As of September 2024, the brand holds the distinction of receiving more TSP+ awards than any other manufacturer since 2013, accumulating 72 TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards. This achievement reflects Subaru's ongoing commitment to developing and implementing advanced safety technologies across its vehicle lineup.
SCI Chairman, President, and CEO Tomohiro Kubota emphasizes the brand's dedication: "Safety will always be at the forefront of everything we do. Seeing new models receive safety designations tells us we are focusing on the right elements to keep our drivers and occupants safe."
These latest IIHS awards demonstrate Subaru's continuous advancement in vehicle safety technology and design. With five current models holding safety awards, Canadian drivers can choose from a range of vehicles that meet the highest safety standards in the automotive industry.
