Each year, the Auto Trader Group's panel of experts evaluates the industry's models and selects a grand prize winner from the twenty or so categories it has identified.
Once again this year, Subaru stood out with two awards, including best model in the compact SUV segment. Unsurprisingly, the 2025 Outback came out ahead of its competitors thanks to its many qualities, qualities that Subaru buyers hold in high regard.
Let's take a look at what Auto Trader's experts had to say about the 2025 Subaru Outback.
A regular
First, they pointed out that the Subaru Outback is a regular honoree of the Auto Trader group. In fact, this is the fourth time the model has been recognized as the best of its class by the experts.
General qualities
It's recommended for a host of reasons, including its spacious interior, its practicality and versatility, its great comfort, the fact that it's easy to drive and that it's very well thought out for those with pets, especially dogs. Dog crates and kennels are easy to slide on board, and its height, which is lower than that of an SUV, makes it easier for pets to get in and out.
The model's height is also a plus when it comes to the driving position; not too high, not too low.
Its safety features, long-term value and fuel economy were also cited among its great qualities.
The ride
The Subaru Outback's ride was also praised. Its great comfort on rough surfaces was praised. Owners were said to love the Outback's supple, controlled suspension.
Other favourite features include off-road driving modes, as well as for different driving conditions such as muddy or snowy surfaces. Adaptive headlamps that work well with automatic low beams to improve visibility and reduce eyestrain, particularly on winding, unlit roads, are also popular features.
The fact that the 2025 Outback is offered in seven configurations (two engines), including the Wilderness off-road variant, gives consumers plenty of choice.
Safety
Finally, the Subaru Outback is also recognized as a very safe model. Of course, there's the Eyesight safety suite, which offers a host of features (standard or optional) such as adaptive cruise control, lane centering, adaptive headlights, as well as blind spot and rear cross-traffic monitoring, among others.
However, it is Subaru's constant-mesh all-wheel drive system that is the model's number-one safety feature, a fact that is recognized by buyers.
The publication also highlights the vehicle's comprehensive equipment, reliability, build quality and excellent value for money.
In short, as you can see, the experts don't have too many criticisms to make about the 2025 Subaru Outback.
